Sekar Jepun

An awesome song by the Harry Roesli Gang, led by late musician Harry Roesli, on their 1976 album Titik Api. He seems to have had a great influence on the history of Indonesian music, and I know nothing about that. I found this song on YouTube.

It's a mix of modern sound with traditional gamelan composition. I couldn't tell you much more, but I will translate the brief spoken (chanted) word introduction in Sundanese (which, for the record, I do not speak. I just used a bunch of dictionaries). Enjoy!

Sundanese (Latin) Sundanese (Aksara Sunda Baku) Indonesian English

Dina haté nu daria
Da mi na dipibanda ku balaréa

ᮓᮤᮔ ᮠᮒᮤ ᮔᮥ ᮓᮛᮤᮃ
ᮓ ᮙᮤ ᮔ ᮓᮤᮕᮤᮙ᮪ᮘᮔ᮪ᮓ ᮊᮥ ᮘᮜᮛᮦᮃ

Dalam hati yang nurani
Da mi na dimiliki oleh masyarakat

Within pure hearts
Da mi na is borne by all

Ngan hanjakal nyatana
jadi pacéngkadan

ᮍᮔ᮪ ᮠᮔ᮪ᮏᮊᮜ᮪ ᮍᮔ᮪ ᮠᮔ᮪ᮏᮊᮜ᮪

Namun sayang nyatanya
terjadi perselisihan

However, sadly, in truth
Conflict persists

Translator's note: "Da mi na" are the Sundanese names for the first three notes of the traditional pentatonic scale. Interestingly, they are in descending order of pitch. "Da mi na ti la da"
